FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Cardio First Angel

Do I have to practice with the Cardio First Angel?

No, the use of the Cardio First Angel is intuitive and clear after a look at the pictograms printed on the device. Training by a third party like first-aid trainers or a doctor is not necessary. Furthermore the shape of the Cardio First Angel helps to find the correct position on the patients chest. The rescusitation itself then is very intuitive. The Cardio First Angel indicates how hard you have to press and also the rhythm.

When do I use the Cardio First Angel?

The Cardio First Angel comes to use whenever CPR / chest compression is required. This is always the case with a cardiac arrest.

How do I know when CPR is necessary?

First of all, you should check on the patient if they are unconscious by shaking and asking them loudly: "Are you OK?". If this is the case and you cannot see or feel breath you should immediately begin CPR. The Cardio First Angel helps you!

Do I have to use a lot of strength to perform CPR with the Cardio First Angel?

No, the Cardio First Angel is purely mechanical and indicates with a click sound when the right amount of pressure is applied, without making the chest compression more difficult. Chest compression with locked elbows does not require too much strength. The Cardio First Angel can easily be used for CPR by every adult thanks to its easy and comprehensive design, even without prior first-aid courses.

Which frequency do I have to use for CPR?

The Cardio First Angel helps you find the correct rhythm for CPR by a double click sound. The first click sounds when you gain the correct compression depth, the second click sounds with decompression. The rhythm of the click helps you find the correct frequency of compressions (80-120 compressions per minute).

What does CPR do?

In the event of a cardiac arrest, the blood flow stops. To supply the vital organs with sufficient oxygen, proper and effective CPR has to be performed. CPR should be performed immeditately, because a lack of oxygen over a longer period of time can cause permanent damage and eventually death.

What is more important, chest compression or ventilation?

Ideally a combination of both, but according to the new guidelines the chest compression is the crucial part of CPR. If you feel familiar and confident with ventilation, the optimum is 30 chest compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths.
If you are not comfortable with ventilation apply chest compressions only.
The most important thing is to help in general.

Is the Cardio First Angel suitable for CPR on children?

No, the Cardio First Angel is set to the amount of pressure that is required to rescusitate an adult. Please do not use the Cardio First Angel for patients under 16 years  of age.

Does the Cardio First Angel replace an AED?

No, the Cardio First Angel is the ideal addition to an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and should be placed near an AED (e.g. in public locations etc.). An AED should always be used in combination with CPR, especially during the AED's analysis.
In only 25% of all cases the AED will recommend a shock, but CPR must be performed in 100% of all cases.

Where should I keep my Cardio First Angel?

For private use you can store the Cardio First Angel with your first-aid kit, fire extinguisher and in your car or household. In commercial or office buildings as well as in public places or buildings it is recommended to have the Cardio First Angel in the first aid cabinet or near an AED, which is central and accessable for all employees.
Thanks to its compact size you can even carry the Cardio First Angel in your bag or backpack.

Why is the Cardio First Angel a single-use product?

The Cardio First Angel has to be replaced once used in a real emergency. The reason for this is not material fatigue, but the liquid absorbing properties of the foam. These properties serve the purpose of guaranteeing a secure position on the patients chest by soaking up the commonly occuring cold sweat (or other bodily fluids e.g. blood, vomit etc.). This aspect of hygiene and the fact that it is maintenance-free, are the reasons to dispose of the product and purchase a new one after use in an emergency. The Cardio First Angel can be used for practice or training purposes without any problems.
